Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown Marks National Dog Day With Extended Pet Stay Initiative Supporting Rescue Animals

In celebration of National Dog Day on 26 August, Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown is extending its much-loved Pet-Friendly Stay Experience until 31 August, continuing to transform every pet stay into meaningful support for rescue animals across the UAE.

At the heart of the initiative is Sawyer, the hotel’s resident Wellness Supervisor and rescue Saluki, whose remarkable journey from shelter dog to beloved team member has become a symbol of compassion, inclusion and purpose-led hospitality.

Rescued from Stray Dogs Center, Sawyer joined Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown in October 2025 and quickly became much more than the hotel’s resident dog. Today, he is a valued member of the team, welcoming guests, lifting colleagues’ spirits and creating genuine moments of connection throughout the hotel.

His calm nature and affectionate personality have made him one of the hotel’s most recognisable ambassadors. Guests frequently seek him out during their stay, sharing photos and stories on social media, while colleagues credit him with bringing comfort, positivity and balance to the workplace.

“National Dog Day is the perfect opportunity to celebrate not only Sawyer, but every rescue animal waiting for a second chance,” said Laura Eggleton, General Manager of Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown. “Sawyer reminds us every day that hospitality is about creating meaningful human connections. His impact on our guests, our colleagues and our culture has been extraordinary, and through this initiative we hope to inspire more people to consider fostering, adopting or supporting local rescue organisations.”

Sawyer’s story reflects a wider commitment that began three years ago when members of the Hotel Indigo team fostered two abandoned Huskies during the summer until they found permanent homes. That experience sparked an ongoing partnership with Stray Dogs Center, leading to fundraising initiatives, donations of hotel linens, colleague awareness programmes and the creation of experiences that directly support rescue animals.

To continue that mission, the hotel is extending its Pet-Friendly Stay Experience until the end of August.

Guests travelling with their four-legged companions can enjoy a relaxing stay in the heart of Downtown Dubai, complete with dedicated in-room pet amenities, access to designated pet-friendly areas throughout the hotel, and outdoor dining alongside their pets at Open Sesame and Orange Feels.

Most importantly, every booking helps make a difference.

An AED 200 pet supplement from every pet stay is donated in full to Stray Dogs Center, directly supporting the rescue, rehabilitation and care of abandoned animals across the UAE. Every stay becomes more than a getaway. It becomes an opportunity to give another animal a second chance.

The initiative embodies Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown’s belief that “No one is left behind – not now, not ever.” It is a philosophy brought to life every day by Sawyer, whose journey from rescue dog to Wellness Supervisor demonstrates how one act of kindness can create lasting impact for guests, colleagues and the wider community.

As National Dog Day shines a spotlight on the importance of responsible pet ownership and adoption, Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown hopes Sawyer’s story will inspire more people to open their hearts, and perhaps even their homes, to animals in need.
